SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS WHICH CAN BE APPLIED NEED TO BE COMMERCIALIZED
BUT COMMERCIALIZATION IS AN ENTREPRENEURIAL TASK
Commercialization Reactor, an international platform for science commercialization – recognised by EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative as the Best Deep Tech Program in Europe for its “‘CR: Deep Tech Creation-to-Capital Cycle” – initiate a program to facilitate and support the creation of science-based (deep-tech) start-ups.
The first step is the “COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE” program – part of the award-winning “‘CR: Deep Tech Creation-to-Capital Cycle” – during which all possible types of commercialization will be explained, specifically focusing on Commercialization Reactor’s methodology.

ABOUT COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE PROGRAM
What will you gain on completion of the COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE program?
- After successfully completing the first part of the COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE (before “one-to-one sessions”):
- Knowledge of different commercialization types and an understanding of the type of commercialization that fits you the most.
- Self-determination, which path of commercialization is right for you. It should be specifically suited for you because there are more opportunities for commercialization than a scientist sees in their routine.
- Insight into why commercialization is important, what the role of the university is in this process, and what kind of support you can receive from your university, project partners and Commercialization Reactor.
- Understanding of the deep-tech startup life cycle and the roles of scientists and entrepreneurs at each stage (with real cases)
- After successfully completing the second part of the COMMERCIALIZATION DIVE (following the “one-to-one sessions”):
- Readiness and opportunity to present your technology at upcoming Ignition Events, with the next, 23rd Ignition Event happening on December 6-7, 2024. Here, you will be able to present your scientific achievements to entrepreneurs and possibly form a start-up team.
The Ignition Event is a unique event for ambitious entrepreneurs and world-class scientific teams to launch their international deep-tech startups.
Here, we blend entrepreneurship and science to create startups based on Commercialization Reactor’s validated Science Commercialization Methodology.
The entrepreneurs become the business leaders and scientists keep building the scientific excellence and fundamental value of the newly formed venture.
It does not matter whether you are already experienced in entrepreneurship or deep-tech entrepreneurship – you can still become part of Commercialization Reactor’s community and science-based business ecosystem. We truly believe that deep-tech entrepreneurship is a mindset and a craft that one can learn and master!
How does the Ignition Event work?
- Commercialization Reactor selects researchers from all over the world that have reached a certain stage in the development of their technology
- We bring together entrepreneurs and scientists at the Ignition Event, where scientists present and explain their discoveries
- The entrepreneurs ask their selected researchers additional questions
- The entrepreneur selects technology and works together with the scientist to develop a brief pitch about the potential market application of the technology and to see whether there is team potentia
- The entrepreneur and the scientist present their pitch to the jury
- The entrepreneur and the scientist decide whether they are willing to establish a team, a proto-company.
Listen the Panel discussion: The Ignition Event Experience to learn more about the process:
“We were very honest. We are scientists, but when it comes to the business side – we needed help. And the Event provided an excellent Platform for this. It was an opportunity for us to pitch it but at the end of the day it was a case of being asked the right questions and coming together with the right team of people who will give us an opportunity to commercialize, which is not something we know how to do.”
– Dr. Nik Georgopoulos, Associate Professor in Cell Biology at the University of Huddersfield & CSO at VeritaCell.

Commercialization Reactor’s methodology explained in short
For more than 10 years, Commercialization Reactor’s methodology has been tested and validated in Latvia, where more than 140 startups were formed with international scientific teams and local entrepreneurs at their core, more than 50 of which received investments and continue to develop their business. The need for Commercialization Reactor’s methodology and its success were further recognized by the EIT, and it is now being expanded to other European countries.
In recent past, the Commercialization Reactor’s methodology helped to commercialize scientific research from various countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, Spain, Croatia, United Kingdom, Turkey and more, cooperating with more than 30 universities and research centres, such as University of Huddersfield, Riga Technical University, University of Tartu, University of Ljubljana and more.
